Bolton, Massachusetts

Bolton is a  country town of over 4,000 residents, offering simple pleasures. Beautiful in every season, Bolton has a pastoral landscape that communicates serenity. It has become a destination drive for city dwellers and tourists. In spring they come to see the apple blossoms. In autumn they come for apple picking and watch the colors flame along the scenic roads. In summer they visit the small ponds for recreation. Bolton embodies scenic New England.

Once part of the plantation of Lancaster, Bolton became a separate town in 1738.  Lacking major water power, manufacturing was never a dominant element in the local economy. Instead, agriculture, dairy farming, raising poultry and market gardening were the main ways for the citizenry to make a living.

Recently named one of the state's fastest growing communities, Bolton has developed a master plan for future growth. In the last forty years, small subdivisions have appeared amidst the woods and pastures and recently, Senior adult housing has been built.  Bolton wants to retain its farming  heritage and so, the 4H Clubs will continue to be busy, the harvest fair will celebrate Bolton's agricultural roots and character, and the Bolton Conservation Trust will preserve even more acres of meadows, woods, wetlands and agricultural fields.

While Bolton may become a suburban community, it is determined to retain a sense of its rural past in the present and in the future.
